Classes

MTI was formed in 2008 by the trainers of VUW Kickboxing (also known as VUW Muay Thai), it was time to move to a more professional premises with increased hours. Prior to the move VUW kickboxing had trained at Victoria University for more then 20 years and due to the popularity of the classes a larger venue was needed. All VUW kickboxing classes are now held at MTI.

MTI has classes for all levels of Muay Thai Kickboxing experience, from the General class for beginners to the advanced class for the more experienced and the fighters class for the serious fighter.

There are personal training sessions available to get you results faster in a program designed for you which can cater for all levels, combined with the general classes these can provide a kickstart to your training or a skill boost to help get you on track faster.

General Class information

The general class focuses on developing good basic Muay Thai and Boxing technique, fitness and confidence in a safe and friendly environment. We believe in letting you train at your own pace and while we want you to achieve results we also believe training should be FUN.

General classes are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:15pm-7:30pm and the Combat Conditioning class on Friday. The Combat Conditioning Class uses the same drills that fighter’s use to get ready for competitions which will really push your fitness to a new level! There is also a womens only class on Saturdays from 11:30-12:30 run by former title holder Vicki Maguire and NZ Champion Meenal Prasad.

Equipment:

To start with you can rent gloves and if you continue training we recommend buying hand wraps and gloves. All of this equipment is available at a discount from the GYM.

Moving from the General Class to the Advanced class

Once you have and covered the basics then you may want to think about moving on to the advanced class – this is normally about 3 to 6 months after you have started. In the advanced can work on refining your skills, improving fitness and working on more advanced techniques, or working towards a fight if that is your goal.

I have experience in Muay Thai what class should I go to?

We would recommend you try the general class first unless you have more then 1 years experience. If you are keen to join the Advanced Classes immediately please talk to us about this.
